William C. "Bill" Mayes

William Charles “Bill” Mayes, 84, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on November 20, 2025.

Bill was born in Stratford, Oklahoma to Lester and Wana Mayes and grew up in west Texas. He attended North Texas State University before starting a long career as an independent insurance agent in Junction City, Kansas, and marrying Sally Grammer. Bill was an avid golfer and could be found on the course several days a week in his younger days, he also enjoyed playing cards with friends at his farm. He was a long-time parishioner at St Xavier’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Sally, children Chad (Dana), Stuart (Leslie) Allison (Sean) and Molly (Luke), five grandchildren (Abigail, Chase, Gabriella, Wyatt, and Jack) and one great-grandchild (Jaxton). Brother Tom (Margaret Ann), sisters Mary Anne (James) Askew and Janice Gaman and many nieces and nephews.

Private family burial to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to be given to Friends of Animals P.O. BOX 580 Junction City, KS 66441.
