June 24, 1935 — April 29, 2020

Wayne L. Dishman, 84, Junction City, KS, died Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at the Geary Community Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A public memorial service has been postponed due to the current environment surrounding COVID-19.This information will be updated once services have been rescheduled. Thank you for your understanding during this challenging time. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Junction City Junior Baseball Associaton, Geary County Food Pantry or to the Junction City Animal Shelter.

Wayne was born June 24, 1935, in Stockton, KS, the son of Tom and Zora Dishman.

Wayne graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1954. Wayne worked for Graves Truck Lines for many years prior to his retirement. Before working for Graves Truck Lines, he played baseball for the Junction City Hawks as a pitcher. His nickname was "Lefty". At one time, Wayne and several other area players had the opportunity to try out for the Kansas City A's. Unfortunately, travel arrangements didn't allow them to make the trip.

On June 24, 2005, on his birthday, they dedicated the Wayne Dishman Field at Field One at North Park in Junction City. In 2012, he was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame for the Distinguished Kansas Sportsman Award. Wayne was involved in youth baseball for over 60 years in our community. He patiently encouraged many young players. Wayne was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan as well as an avid KU fan.

He married Ruth Cameron August 14, 1958.

Survivors include his wife Ruth (Cameron) Dishman; two sons, Mike Dishman and Jeff Dishman all of Junction City. KS and seven grandchildren, Brandon, Derrick, Austin, Darin, Amber, Maddy and Gage and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Darrel, Lymon and Don; one sister, Matie Dishman-Northrup and one granddaughter Tiffany Canaday..
