Talton E. Leonard Jr., affectionately known as Tal, passed away on March 7, 2026, in Junction City, Kansas, at the age of 78. Born on November 3, 1947, in Highpoint, North Carolina, he was a devoted family man known for his jocular personality and loving spirit. Tal’s generous nature and playful demeanor brought joy to those around him and offered a comforting presence to family and friends.
Tal's dedication to his country was evident in his military service. Drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War in the late 1960s, he completed three tours of duty. During his time in Vietnam his fellow soldiers called him "Reb". His commitment to service earned him numerous medals, becoming one of his proudest accomplishments as a retired Sergeant Major E-8.
In addition to his military career, Tal was an enthusiastic hobbyist, finding joy in golf, fishing, and antiquing. He was also an avid treasure hunter, and in his younger years, he relished riding motocross and dirt bikes. His passion extended to his love for Corvettes, which he took great pride in owning and admiring.
Tal was a valued member of the Wakefield, Kansas VFW Post #7774, where he connected with fellow veterans who shared his commitment to community and service.
His memory will be lovingly upheld by his wife, Christa; his daughter, Tinamarie Perez; his stepdaughters, Christel (Travis) Hall and Michel Siercks of Lee Summit, Missouri; and his seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his niece, Natalie Schaffer, and two beloved yorkies, Sunny and Molly.
Tal joins his deceased family members, including his parents, Talton E. Leonard Sr. and Ruth Hester; his first wife, Janie Leonard, who passed on October 9, 2023; his daughter, Debbie Drew; and his sister, Pam Greer.
Talton E. Leonard Jr. will be remembered for his loving nature, vibrant spirit, and the legacy of service he leaves behind. The impact he made on the lives of those who knew him will be cherished for years to come.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date TBD.
