Sung Tae Kim, a devoted pastor and community leader, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Born on July 5, 1946, in Seoul, South Korea, Pastor Kim lived a life marked by faith, service, and dedication to both his family and his congregation.
After proudly serving in the Korean Military for three years, including one year during the Vietnam War, Pastor Kim embarked on a significant personal and professional journey that began with his immigration to the United States. Initially establishing himself as a businessman in Junction City, Kansas, he later answered a higher calling. With a heartfelt commitment to his faith, he transitioned into the ministry and devoted the remainder of his career to serving the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Pastor Kim was the founding Pastor of Korean Grace Baptist Church in Junction City, which opened its doors in 1994. With a bachelors degree of theology and a masters degree of ministry, he was known for his pastoral presence that profoundly impacted his community and parishioners. His caring, giving nature and unwavering loyalty were evident in both his spiritual leadership and his strong, loving family focus.
One of Pastor Kim’s proudest accomplishments was the work that he did to advance the Kingdom of God. Throughout his life of service, he was involved in several churches planted and most importantly, helping to reach the lost.
He is survived by his wife Young Sook Kim of Junction City, Kansas; three sons—Kook Nam Kim and his wife Erin of Houston, Texas, Kook Yol Kim and his wife June of Overland Park, Kansas, and Kook Hyon Kim and his wife Sujin of Houston, Texas; one brother, Sung Han Kim of Killeen, Texas; and three sisters—Sun Segler of Killeen, Texas, Grace Heneke of San Antonio, Texas, and Heegil Kim of Killeen, Texas; seven grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Won Suk and Moon Ok (Cho) Kim; his daughter, Kyong Ae Kim; and his first wife, Jung Sook Kim, who passed away in 2004.
The community will gather to honor Pastor Kim’s memory with a visitation held on April 29, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Johnson & Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home located at 203 N Washington St, Junction City, Kansas. A funeral service will follow the next day, April 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Korean Grace Baptist Church, 629 Grant Avenue, Junction City.
Throughout his life, Pastor Sung Tae Kim exemplified a profound dedication to faith and family, leaving a lasting legacy nurtured through years of compassionate ministry and community engagement. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know and celebrate his life.
