Shirley L. Lee, a devoted nurse, loving mother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, at Brookdale in Junction City, Kansas. Born on December 12, 1932, in Oakley, Kansas, Shirley lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and a joyful spirit that touched the lives of many.

Shirley’s professional journey was a testament to her unwavering commitment to caring for others. After completing nursing school at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, she embarked on a long and distinguished career in nursing. She served as a registered nurse at Geary County Community Hospital for many years, where her superior bedside manner and heartfelt compassion earned her the admiration of patients and colleagues alike. Shirley also worked alongside Dr. Charles Bollman in Junction City, Kansas, lending her expertise and kindness as his nurse. Prior to her retirement, she contributed her talents to Central Services at Geary Community Hospital. Beyond her professional work, Shirley generously volunteered as a Pink Lady with the Geary Community Hospital Auxiliary, dedicating her time to comfort and support those in need.

A woman of many passions, Shirley found joy in sewing and quilting, cherishing the quiet moments these crafts brought. She delighted in watching and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, sharing in their triumphs and cheering them on with enthusiasm. Her love for sports extended to college football and basketball, where she was an avid follower and supporter. Among her fondest memories were times spent at Milford Lake annually with family, where laughter and love intertwined under open skies, creating bonds that would last a lifetime.

Shirley’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, she was deeply involved in the church community, contributing her time and spirit to various committees. Her participation in United Methodist Women and Nimble Fingers highlighted her generous heart and commitment to fellowship. The church was not only a place of worship for Shirley but also a family where she found friendship, purpose, and joy.

Shirley’s warmth, kindness, and happy nature were hallmarks of her personality. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a ready laugh that brightened the days of those around her. She was known for her caring heart and great compassion, qualities that defined both her personal and professional life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents John Leroy and Clola Ellen (Bitters) Breckenridge; her husband, Garth Lee; her son, Tim Lee; her grandson, Kyle Lee; and her siblings John Breckenridge, Patricia Bay, and Carolyn Bartee.

Shirley leaves behind a loving family who carry her spirit forward: her daughters Debi S. Lee-Nelson and her husband Steve of Topeka, Kansas, and Becky A. Coy and her husband Ralph of Junction City, Kansas. Her grandchildren Becca Strom and her husband Jordan of Manhattan, Kansas; Matt Nelson and his wife Lindsay of Prairie Village, Kansas; Tyler Nelson of Redmond, Washington; Chris Coy of Junction City, Kansas; Rylee Moore and her husband Erik of Manhattan, Kansas; and Danielle Coy and her fiance Nate of Oklahoma, along with great-grandchildren Pierce Strom, Harper Strom, and Haley Rose Pike, all cherish her memory deeply. Shirley also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews who will remember her kindness and warmth.

A visitation will be held on May 4, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, located at 804 N Jefferson St, Junction City, Kansas. This will be followed by a memorial service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. Reverend Dirk Weiss will officiate. A graveside service will take place at Highland Cemetery, 703 W Ash St, Junction City, Kansas, beginning at 1:30 PM.

Shirley L. Lee’s legacy is one of love, service, and joyful kindness. She embraced life with an open heart and a generous spirit, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her memory will continue to inspire those who loved her, reminding us all of the power of compassion and the beauty of a life well-lived.
