SGT (RET) Michael Roberto Simpkins, 72, passed away at his home in Junction City, Kansas, on May 12, 2024.
Michael was born in Manhattan, New York, to Jim Henry Simpkins and Alice Rose Smith. The family moved to Brooklyn, New York, where Michael graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School. Michael then joined the United States Army. After 20 years of service, he retired in Junction City, Kansas, where he lived for the rest of his life.
Michael worked at the Irvin Army Community Hospital (IACH) in the Finance Department, retiring after 20 years.
Michael was a Past Master Mason, who served in Prince Hall Masonry for many years in Junction City.
He had a passion for deejaying and worked at many events in the city. In addition to deejaying, Michael collected and enjoyed a vast collection of vinyl albums, CDs, and DVDs. He also enjoyed fishing with his friends.
Michael was preceded in death by both his parents.
He is survived by his brother, James (Yvonne) Simpkins of Savannah, Georgia; two nieces, Damonique (Lawrence) Murray and Yashieka (Tyronne) Goldsmith; three nephews, James Roe, Yonnick Simpkins and Joshua Simpkins; and one great-nephew, Noah James.
