Roger K. Swenson, born on August 7, 1931, in Junction City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, in Chapman, Kansas. His 94 years were marked by dedication to family, commitment to community, and an enduring curiosity for the world around him.

Roger was the beloved son of Roy and Flossie Swenson, both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up in a family anchored in strong values, learning from a young age the importance of hard work and integrity—principles that would guide him throughout his life.

A devoted husband, Roger married Phyllis Switzer on September 7, 1952, beginning a partnership rooted in love and mutual respect. Together, they built a warm and welcoming home. Phyllis, his cherished wife, also preceded him in death. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in September of 2012.

Roger’s family was the heart of his life. He leaves behind his daughters, Veron Swenson, Carol (Bruce) Wehling, and Myrna (Rick) Pruitt, who will forever treasure the wisdom and kindness he imparted to them. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Kate (Glynn) Tipton, Brandon (Jess) Wehling, Brody Wehling, Molly Slate, Megan Campbell, David Campbell, and Dosha (Charlie) Harrell, as well as his great-grandchildren: Michael (Jenna) Higby, Makayla (Vincent) Richards, Blair Wehling, Brett Wehling, Miles Wehling, Brinley Slate, Vivian Slate, Lexi Lucas, Hayden Campbell, Wyatt Campbell, and Hayes Harrell; and great-great-grandchildren Myles Higby, and Levi Higby. Roger’s brothers Loren and Vernon Swenson preceded him in passing.

A man of steadfast service and loyalty, Roger worked for over 35 years at Farmer's State Bank in Dwight, Kansas. His professionalism, integrity, and personal touch made a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike. Never one to shy away from hard work, he also dedicated countless hours to working on cars at the house and maintaining the family farm—a testament to his resourceful spirit and industrious character.

During the Korean War, Roger answered the call to serve his country as a member of the National Guard. Though his service lasted less than two years, he earned the rank of E-5, demonstrating his reliability and leadership.

Roger was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Dwight, Kansas.

Roger’s adventurous spirit and appreciation for natural beauty enriched his later years. He loved to travel, especially to the American West and the storied Four Corners region of Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. The Utah national parks were his favorites, and his final grand journey—a remarkable 17-day trip through 14 states and numerous national parks—stands as a reflection of his enduring wonder and joy in discovery.

Those who knew Roger remember him as a man of unwavering principles, gentle humor, and boundless generosity. His guidance, acts of service, and affection have shaped the lives of his family and friends, leaving a profound mark on all who had the privilege to know him.

Roger K. Swenson’s legacy is one of love, service, and adventure. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those whose lives he touched.

Cremation has taken place in the care of Johnson & Mass-Hinnit Funeral Home. A private graveside service will take place at a later date at the Dwight Cemetery.
