Robert A. Smith, a devoted husband, proud veteran, and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, in Junction City, Kansas. Born on February 1, 1958, in Omaha, Nebraska, Robert's life was marked by dedication, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved and served.

As the youngest of eight siblings, Robert developed from an early age a sociable nature that carried throughout his life. He was known for his friendly spirit and his genuine interest in everyone he met. These qualities made him a beloved figure in his community, where he enjoyed driving around town and playing bingo — simple pastimes that brought him joy and connection.

Robert's pride in service was deeply rooted in his eight years with the United States Army. After enlisting, he honorably served until 1984, a period that shaped much of his identity and values. It was during his time stationed in South Korea that fate brought him together with Chong, the love of his life, whom he married on January 5, 1979, in Seoul. Their marriage was a testament to their bond, as Chong was his everything, and their partnership was characterized by mutual devotion and enduring love.

Beyond his military career, Robert was actively engaged with the American Legion Post #45, where he volunteered his time and energy. This involvement reflected his continued commitment to supporting fellow veterans and fostering community spirit.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert and Vera Smith, who laid the foundation for the man he became. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Chong Smith, whose presence remained a source of strength and comfort throughout his life.
