Richard David Waters, 70, passed away peacefully at home in Junction City, Kansas February 5, 2026. Cremation will take place and private services will be held at a later date.

Rick was born August 16, 1955, to Len and Virginia (Hartung) Waters and grew up on McDowell Creek, in Geary County on the Waters’ family farm.

He graduated from St Xavier’s High School in 1973 and then went to work for the US Postal Service where we worked for 38 years. He then worked for 14 years for Geary County Schools USD 475 until he finally retired in 2024.

Rick married Betty Crotzer April 12, 1995, and they enjoyed 30 years together.

He was blessed with two children Heather and Christian who were the pride of his life.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Inge Crotzer, and nephews Ron and Damien Bramlage.

He is survived by his wife Betty and son Christian of the home, daughter, Heather (Jeremy) and grandkids Grace, Noah and Hannah Snyder of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Patti Wertzberger; brothers, Bill, Jim, Lenny and Michael Waters; nieces and nephews, Brenda, Amy, Jim Jr, and Marcus Waters, Collette Lowry, Michelle Carrier, and Christina Gantt; dog, Sparky and cat, Sassy.

Rick was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and pet dad. He was known for his sense of humor, funny stories, and kindness. He was an avid gardener growing up on the Waters farm and was known throughout Junction City for his meticulously manicured lawn and landscape. He won Yard of the Month July 2, 2007. He was a huge sports fan especially of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and Kansas State Wildcats. He held season tickets to the Chiefs for many years. His other hobbies included boating and riding his Harley.

Rick will be greatly missed and always remembered by those blessed to have him as family or a friend.
