Richard Wayne Parker, born on October 16, 1934, in Greenville, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026. He was the beloved son of Robert E. and Aileen E. (Price) Parker. Richard's life was defined by his unwavering dedication to both his family and his country.
A proud veteran, Richard made significant contributions during his military service as he served in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and remained actively involved in veteran affairs as a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion, and the Air Force Sergeants Association. His commitment to his country was a testament to his character and values, which he instilled in his family.
Following his military career, Richard transitioned to a civilian role, working for the United States Coast Guard as a Financial Systems Analyst in Topeka, Kansas. His professional life mirrored his personal virtues, marked by integrity and a strong work ethic.
Richard's enduring spirit was complemented by his passions outside of work. He enjoyed reading and was particularly fond of watching old western movies, finding joy in the stories and characters that graced the screen. Additionally, he had a deep love for traveling, exploring new places and cultures with curiosity and enthusiasm.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sherry, who resides in Clay Center, Kansas; and two daughters, Kimberly Mulvaney of Dallas, Texas, and Jeanne Bunting of Topeka, Kansas; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Parker, who passed away on February 2, 2001, and a daughter, Constance A. Parker-Smith, who died in 2004.
Richard Wayne Parker will be remembered for his warmth, commitment to family, and the legacy of service he leaves behind. A graveside service to honor his life will be held at Dennison Cemetery in Dennison, Kansas, on January 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of many.
