Phil Leon Irby, born on October 1, 1955, in Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, in Junction City, Kansas. He leaves behind a cherished legacy as a dedicated soldier, a beloved friend, and a community member who devoted much of his life to serving others.

A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Johnson & Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home, located at 203 N. Washington Street in Junction City, Kansas. The funeral service to honor Phil will follow on August 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at First Christian Church, located at 1429 Saint Marys Road, Junction City, with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. A graveside service with full military honors will commence at 1:00 PM at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road in Manhattan, Kansas.

Phil proudly served in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of E-7 Sergeant First Class. His commitment to service extended far beyond his enlistment; he remained active in his community and was particularly known for his weekly Saturday morning breakfasts with fellow veterans. These gatherings were more than just meals; they were a testament to his unwavering bonds of friendship formed through shared experiences and mutual respect.

In addition to his military service, Phil was deeply involved with the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). His participation exemplified his belief in camaraderie and advocacy for those who served alongside him. Phil’s passion for supporting his fellow veterans endeared him to many, and he will be remembered not only for his service but also for his kindness and contributions to the veteran community.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mattie (Johnson) Irby. He is survived by numerous fellow military veterans who considered him not only a colleague but a dear friend and ally.

Phil Leon Irby’s unwavering commitment to his country, his friendships, and his community will leave a lasting imprint on all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed but eternally remembered.
