Penny Lee Slater

Penny Lee (Staats) Slater, age 79, of Wakefield, Kansas, passed away peacefully at Tallgrass Health Care in Hospice Care on August 8, 2026. Penny was born in Omaha, Nebraska on June 1,1947 to Russell and Lois Staats. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, Texas in 1965. 

Some of Penny's fondest memories included traveling to Germany and Alaska with her late husband SSG Clemens Lee Slater and spending their lives in Wakefield, Kansas. They married in Ft. Bliss, Texas in the late 1960s. Penny loved her dogs and sharing time and memories with her husband and friends.

Penny had many hobbies, including gardening, fishing, attending auctions, and buying irises. 

Penny was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Clemens Lee Slater, with whom she shared a lifetime of love with. She was also preceded in death by her parents Russell Neal Saats and Lois Mae (Steinhauser) Staats and her brother Russell William Staats. 

Penny is survived by her sister Pamela (Staats) Sanders and her husband Rodger Sanders of Ohio and her close friends Joseph and Toni Mish of Chapman, Kansas.

Cremation has taken place in the care of Johnson & Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home. No services are planned at this time.
