Patrick M. Hemmelgarn, fondly known as Pat, passed away on July 6, 2026, in Manhattan, Kansas at the age of 52. Born on October 21, 1973, in Toledo, Ohio, Patrick’s life was marked by devotion to family, unwavering friendships, and a deep passion for the things he loved.
Patrick graduated from Junction City High School as part of the Class of 1991. Shortly after, he began a career that would span over 30 years in Flint Hills roofing, where his work ethic and attention to detail made him a respected figure within the community. In recent years, Patrick worked at ABC Supply Co. Inc for five years, where he was admired by colleagues and customers alike until his passing.
A man of wide-ranging interests, Patrick was an avid Ohio State and Las Vegas Raiders fan. He cheered for his teams with infectious enthusiasm, and some of his fondest memories were family trips to see Ohio State and Raiders games. His love for NASCAR, especially as a Jeff Gordon fan, was well-known among friends and family. Patrick also enjoyed the thrill of amusement parks, with Cedar Point holding a special place in his heart as his favorite destination. At home, he found joy in video games, particularly those in the adventure and sports genres, sharing laughter and friendly competition with loved ones.
Patrick met Kelly Harold on October 21, 2000, a date that would mark the beginning of a beautiful partnership. Together, they shared 26 years, blending their family and crafting a life filled with shared moments, travel, and everyday joys. Their journey together was a testament to Patrick’s role as a loving husband and step-father—a role he embraced wholeheartedly.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kelly Harold; step-son, Cody Harold; mother, Tina Ringwood-Hemmelgarn; brother, Lee Hemmelgarn; mother-in-law, Patricia Welsh; brothers-in-law, Lee (Kim) Welsh and Craig Welsh; niece, Haylee Welsh; and nephews, Robert Pigg and Jaedyn Pigg. He lovingly leaves behind his two furbabies Razzle and Gizmo. Patrick is preceded in death by his father, Lowell Hemmelgarn; brother, Jeff Hemmelgarn; niece, Jennifer Pigg; and father-in-law, Leland Welsh.
Those who knew Patrick remember him for his outgoing spirit—he never met a stranger and was always easy to get along with. He was friendly, courteous, and made everyone in his presence feel welcome. Patrick was proud of the life he built for himself and those he loved. His legacy is felt deeply by family, friends, and all who shared in his laughter and kindness.
