Melvin Keith Rowland, 82, of rural White City, KS, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Geary Community Hospital. Cremation has taken place. No services are planned. His cremated remains will be buried at Skiddy Cemetery.
Melvin was born May 4, 1939, at Falls City, NE, the son of Pete R. and Rosie Bell (Randall) Rowland. He attended schools in Falls City and Pawnee City, NE. He was employed as a logger in Nebraska and Iowa. He moved to Kansas where he worked for the Geary County Highway Department. He enlisted into the Unites States Army on November 27, 1963 at Fort Riley, KS. While serving at Fort Riley, he worked as a heavy equipment operator before his discharge March 27, 1969. He continued working for the Geary County Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator, mechanic and shop supervisor until his retirement in 1997. He has also served as the cemetery sexton for the Skiddy Cemetery.
Melvin married Wilma J. Fletcher on May 20, 1977 in Council Grove, KS. She passed away June 15, 2006.
