Margaret "Marge" (Boone) Marsden, 100, passed away on November 24, 2011 while a resident of the Meadowlark Nursing Facility in Manhattan, KS. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Funeral services will be private and burial will take place at Fort Riley Cemetery. Memorial contributions have been designated to the Shriners' Hospital for Crippled Children, c/o JC/Fort Riley Shrine Club, P.O. Box 112 Junction City, KS 66441.
Margaret was born on October 2, 1911 one of three children to Herbert and Mary Ann (Marks) Boone in Chapel Hill, NC.
At the age of 6 years, Margaret promised herself that she would be a nurse after witnessing the suffering of those who had the Spanish Flu of 1917.
Margaret graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1942 and shortly thereafter married Verne Eldon Marsden. After accompanying Verne on a 30 year Army career and serving as a RN in numerous places throughout the world, Margaret and Verne settled in Junction City, KS where Marge gave birth to their only child Scott.
During the Vietnam War, Marge served as an emergency RN at Irwin Army Hospital, Fort Riley, KS she retired from the Colmery O'Neil VA Medical Center, Topeka, KS in 1978 completing her nursing career.
Marge was an avid bridge player who traveled widely to satisfy her passion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Jack and Max Boone and her husband Verne Marsden.
She is survived by her only son, Scott Marsden of Broken Arrow, OK.
There is no higher blessing than that bestowed upon one who sacrifices for the comfort of others.
