Logan Russell "Marty" Martin died Monday, December 4, 2023 at Valley View Senior Life in Junction City, Kansas.

Marty was born in Knott County, Hueysville, Kentucky on August 17, 1948. He graduated from Garrett High School in Kentucky. After graduation, he joined the Army. Marty served in Vietnam from June 1, 1969 to June 1, 1970. He was the recipient of the army commendation medal for meritorious achievement in the republic of Vietnam from one January 1970 to 30 April 1970. He received the award of the bronze star medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces in the republic of Vietnam during the period June 1969 to June 1970. He also received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action on August 11, 1969.

Marty was a thirty year civil servant at Fort Riley. He attended Manhattan Area Vocational School where he obtained certification with heating and air conditioning.

Marty married Linda Jo Matthews on September 25, 1971.

Marty was a kind soul, a devoted husband to Linda, a loyal friend, a loving brother and uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and a fine man. He was an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan. He was a proud and patriotic soldier.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elva Martin of Floyd County, Kentucky; his beloved wife, Linda Jo Matthews Martin; his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Marvin Crum; and his two sisters-in-law, Carol Matthews Schrader and Victoria Matthews.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, John and Kendra Martin; his brother-in-law, Kevin Schrader; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve and Collette Matthews; his brother-in-law, Kenneth Matthews; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, one of whom is named after him.

A visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Saturday, December 16th at Johnson Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 16th following the visitation at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the funeral with military honors at Highland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Parkinson Research Foundation, 5969 Cattleridge Blvd., Ste. 100, Sarasota, FL 34232 or the DAV - Pearl Harbor Chapter, 1917 Winona Circle, Junction City, KS 66441.
