Jim was born to Dr. Leslie J. and Ethel (Rasmus) Brethour in Junction City, Kansas. He graduated from Junction City High School in 1965. While school was a must, it did give him the opportunity to participate in many sports. He attended Kansas State University, took a break, and graduated from Emporia State University.
He was most comfortable outside enjoying God's scenery. Jim could sit for hours watching geese and ducks. Golf, hunting, fishing and horseback riding kept him outside where he could meet new people and see new places.
Jim retired from civil service in 2003 and then helped farmer friends. One of his favorite things was working a field where no one could screw things up behind him.
A big challenge began in April 1982 when he married Michele (Henry) and became an instant dad. Being a dad was probably easier than transitioning a city girl to country life. He handled it well as they were married a month shy of 44 years.
Jim was proceeded in death by his grandparents and parents. Those left with precious memories and numerous stories are his wife Michele, sisters Nancy (Alfred) O'Malley, Peggy (Danny) King and their children and grandchildren; children James (Stacey) LePage and April (James) Linn; and grandchildren Denyce Linn, Elesha Linn and Jackson LePage. Kayle, Andy and Sissy the Australian Shepherds, and Josie and Tiger Lily the feral cats will all miss rubs and treats.
Memorials may be given to a place of your choice, or simply raise a toast and thank God you were fortunate enough to have known him. He was humbled by those who reached out to him to personally say farewell.
Jim never wanted to prolong his life. He had no regrets and was thankful for all the things he did in his lifetime. As he said: “It was a helluv a ride!”
