Lee E. Hudge Jr., affectionately known as "Pops," passed away on March 9, 2026, in Topeka, Kansas. Born on April 16, 1946, in Camilla, Georgia, Lee lived a life marked by generosity, joy, and dedication to family, community, and country.
A graduate of a Miami, Florida high school Class of 1968, Lee answered the call of duty by joining the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served honorably until his discharge in 1992, a chapter of his life he regarded with deep pride. His commitment to his nation stands as a testament to his character and sense of responsibility.
Following his military service, Lee dedicated over two decades as the owner and operator of the Sugar Shack Club in Junction City, Kansas. Through this endeavor, he became a well-known and cherished member of his community, where his hospitality and warmth left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.
Lee had a vivacious spirit and was known for his love of playing pool, cards, and preparing barbecue for anyone lucky enough to gather around with him. His infectious joy made him a fun person who embraced life fully and warmly.
In 1981, he met the love of his life, Tueanetaa, with whom he shared 43 treasured years filled with companionship, laughter, and mutual care. Their bond was a cornerstone of his happiness until her passing on January 17, 2024.
Lee's legacy lives on through his children—Marwin, Ryan, and Ralpheal—and his grandchildren, Marwin Jr. and Tyasia, as well as more than twenty other grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry forward his loving spirit. He is also survived by his aunts, Mattie Francis Haliburton, Wilma Redden, and Ruby Lloyd; a host of cousins; a nephew and two nieces; and numerous friends throughout the community who will remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Tueanetaa Hudge, his parents Lee Edward Hudge Sr. and Geraldine Baltimore, and his sister Sheryl Baltimore.
Lee was a wonderful and loving grandfather, a giving and generous individual who found joy in life's simple pleasures and shared that joy generously. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain a blessing to those who knew him.
Services commemorating Lee’s life will be held on March 26, 2026, beginning with a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., both at Johnson & Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home, located at 203 N Washington St, Junction City, KS. A graveside service will follow at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Manhattan, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, with interment scheduled from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m.
As family, friends, and loved ones gather to honor Lee E. Hudge Jr., they remember a man who lived purposefully and loved deeply—a beacon of kindness and strength whose impact will endure across generations.
The family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to Mr. Christopher Monroe for all the love, support, and care he provided to Lee during his stay at the hospital and nursing home. His kindness in visiting, caring for, and managing his daily needs will never be forgotten. What is even more remarkable is that he was so much more than a neighbor. His daily visits to watch games and rerun episodes of Gunsmoke kept Lee's spirits high and brought him more comfort than anyone could imagine. He was the true friend Lee needed all the way to the end, and we cannot thank him enough for all he has done.
