Karren D. Blanken, affectionately known as Kay, passed away on November 15, 2025, in Junction City, Kansas, at the age of 83. Born on October 10, 1942, in Larned, Kansas, she lived a life marked by deep community involvement, unwavering dedication to her family, and a spirit that touched the lives of many.

Kay was married to her beloved husband, Robert L. Blanken, on February 24, 1962, in Junction City. Together, they established B&K Enterprises, an amusement and vending company that thrived under their ownership from 1968 until 2006. As the bookkeeper and business partner, she took great pride in her work, always driven and eager to serve others. Her commitment to providing joy through her business reflected her fun-loving nature and her servant's heart.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Kay was actively engaged in her community, contributing her time and talents to various local organizations. She was instrumental in the building of the Junction City Animal Shelter and served on the Crime Stoppers committee, among other notable contributions to Sundown Salute and the Junction City Housing Authority. Her dedication to her community was further highlighted by her service as the Mayor of Junction City in the late 90s', showcasing her leadership and passion for making a positive impact.

Kay cherished her hobbies, including golfing and bowling, which allowed her to connect with friends and enjoy the pleasures of life. She was a pillar of strength and support for her family, leaving behind a legacy of love that will forever resonate with those who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Robert S. (Jean) Blanken; daughter, Desree L. (Paul) Loethen; grandsons, Cody B. Smith and Levi C. Smith; great-grandchildren, Alastaire Metz and Wednesday Smith; and siblings, Thomas Hawk of California, David Hawk, and Juanita (Hawk) Faircloth, both of Georgia.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Blanken, who left this world on January 13, 2007, as well as her parents, Nora Gertrude (Legg) Hawk and Leland Harold Hawk. She also mourned the loss of her siblings: Robert, Norman, Raymond, Gerald Rex, Harold Dean, Frank, Dianna (Hawk) Carey, Leland, and Douglas Todd Hawk.

Cremation has taken place. A visitation to honor Kay's life will be held on December 5, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Johnson & Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home, located at 203 N Washington St, Junction City, KS 66441.

Karren D. Blanken will be remembered for her remarkable spirit, compassionate nature, and the irreplaceable role she played as a devoted mother, grandmother, and community member. Her legacy of kindness and dedication serves as an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
