Judy K. Beck

November 18, 1945 — November 20, 2011

Judy Kay Beck, 66, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at her home.

Judy was a life time resident of Junction City and was known and loved by many. She was born on November 18, 1945 to Iva Rebecca Gasswint in Bennington, VT. Soon after she moved to the Junction City area, where she later attended Junction City High School, and continued to live in the local community for most of her life. She worked for many years at Dr. Deam's Veterinary clinic and JC Distributing and Vending. She was an active member of the Eagles, Elks Lodge, and American Legion Auxiliary.

She leaves many loved ones behind including long time companion Bill Lampkin; daughters Kimberly Carr and her husband Robert of Rogers, AR and Tammie McKeithan and her husband Kevin of Schweinfurt, Germany; sons; Brenton Beck and Jorgan Beck and his wife Holly of Junction City, KS; her grandchildren Caleb Carr, Austin McKeithan, Taylor Carr, Gracie Carr, Ivy Beck, and Jance Beck. She is preceded in death by her stepfather Grover Gasswint and survived by her mother, Rebecca, along with brothers John Gasswint and Tommy Woodward; and sisters Patty Oquist, Diana Gasswint, and Shirley Gasswint all from Junction City, KS. Additionally, she leaves many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Judy was a prolific reader and could always be found with a good book and hot cup of coffee almost anywhere she went. She also loved to turn old things into new and whether it was an old piece of furniture that she found at an antique store or taking on a remodeling project of her home, she was as talented and skillful as the most seasoned carpenter. Often times her refinishing projects were done just for the challenge and love of the work and were given away to friends and family without a second thought. While Judy made friends wherever she went, her closest friends were the circle of her life and they will always remember being her angels.

While she enjoyed many things, visiting with her friends, learning a new craft, planting flowers in her yard, going on motorcycle rides, or just helping others, her greatest love was her family. Judy was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will always be remembered for the special moments that she created with those that she loved and loved her. Whether it be the annual 4th of July parade followed by a water balloon fight in the front yard, picking the flowers or vegetables that she had planted, always bringing the grandkids their favorite things, or just laughing and retelling the stories of their childhood, these moments and memories will be forever cherished in the hearts of her family. Her family takes comfort in knowing that while she may not be with them physically, her spirit and love will be with them forever.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00am Saturday, November 26 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street with Pastor Carol Ramey officiating and followed by a burial at Highland cemetery. Visitation will also be held at the Johnson Chapel on Friday, November 25 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Memorial donations may also be given to the KSU Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research, 1 Chalmers Hall, 1700 Anderson Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502-9909.
