Joleen Gai Enlow, a devoted educator and beloved family member, passed away on July 1, 2026, in Junction City, Kansas. She was born on January 13, 1948, in Watonga, Oklahoma, to Omer and Lola Enlow, both of whom preceded her in death. Growing up on a farm in Blaine County Oklahoma, her parents instilled an appreciation for hard work by their examples of faith, commitment, and service.

Joleen grew up with a passion for learning and a drive for excellence that would shape the rest of her life. She graduated from Okeene Oklahoma High School in the Class of 1965, displaying an early love for knowledge and community. She continued her education at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education, driven by a commitment to fostering growth in others. Ever devoted to her profession, Joleen pursued further studies and earned her master’s degree in education from Kansas State University.

Joleen’s life’s work was dedicated to teaching. Over the course of more than forty years, she taught at Ft. Riley schools and Junction City Middle School, inspiring countless students through her dedication, compassion, and expertise. Early in her teaching career she taught speech and drama as her main subject and in the latter part of her career, she specialized in teaching English as a Second Language, sharing her love of language and culture with students from diverse backgrounds. Her impact as an educator was profound, and she took immense pride in her teaching career, which stands as one of her proudest accomplishments.

Beyond her professional life, Joleen cultivated many interests and relationships that enriched the lives of those around her. Reading was one of her greatest joys, and she was well known at the Junction City Library for her enthusiasm and appreciation for literature. A lover of games, she enjoyed playing bridge, finding both challenge and camaraderie at the card table. In her younger years, she had a spirit of adventure and delighted in traveling, gathering memories and stories along the way.

Joleen was cherished for her sense of humor. Early childhood memories of family gatherings with her beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins in Oklahoma sparked her love and appreciation of family. This was a trait she continued to express as a fun-loving aunt to her nephews and their children, always ready with laughter and generous affection. Her ceramic Christmas trees, created with care and artistry, are treasured family heirlooms that continue to bring joy each holiday season. Among many happy memories, the Alaskan Cruise and Christmas Cruise with her nephews and family stands out as a reminder of her love for celebration and family togetherness.

Joleen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Junction City for her entire adult life. Her commitment to God and her faith sustained her during life's challenges. Her community extended to her fellow gym mates at Geary County Rehab.

Independence and strength of character defined Joleen throughout her life. She was steadfast in her convictions and values, yet always kind-hearted and full of laughter. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Joleen is survived by her brother Keith (Marguerite) Enlow, and her nephews Drew (Emily) Enlow  and their son Enzo; and Jacob (Lindsay) Enlow and their children Julie and Logan. She leaves behind a loving family, many friends, former students, and members of the community who are grateful for her presence and her gifts.

She was preceded in death by her father, Omer Keith Enlow, and her mother, Lola F. Enlow.

Joleen Gai Enlow’s life was marked by service, learning, and joy. She will be remembered with deep respect and lasting affection.
