John G. Mix, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on December 13, 2025, in Wakefield, Kansas. Born on October 13, 1947, in Olean, New York, John was a man known for his giving spirit, humor, and deep love for his family.
A proud veteran, John served in the United States Army from 1976 to 1991, retiring with full honors. His dedication to his country reflected the values of commitment and service that he carried throughout his life.
In June 1969, John married the love of his life, Hellen Bone, at Ft. Kobbe in the Panama Canal zone. Together they built a joyful home filled with laughter and surrounded by their loved ones. Some of John's fondest memories include spending time at home, where he cherished the moments watching baseball with Hellen.
John's talents extended beyond his commitment to family and military service. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed engaging in small construction projects around the house. A man of many interests, he played the bass guitar for the band Back Porch Country during the 1980s, performing across Kansas and sharing his love of music with audiences.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Hellen Mix, his son, John G. Mix Jr. and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Cedeno de Mix, and his cherished grandson, George Neill II. He is also survived by his sister Gerilee Greene and her family from Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Patricia Mix, and his daughter, Rose Mix.
As we remember John G. Mix, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to family and country. He leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
