John Anthony Grant, 92, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on February 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on July 15, 1931, to Richard Sr. and Mary (Krynest) Grant in Junction City, Kansas. He grew up with six siblings, three brothers and three sisters. While growing up, his mother and father made sure to teach the importance of family which he carried on throughout his life.
John graduated from St. Xavier Catholic High School. He was involved in many activities and lettered in basketball. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in Korea.
John's work-life through the years included trucking-delivery, wholesale electric, woodworking, framing and carpentry, building and remodeling; using his skills in plumbing and electricity.
Along with his wife, Maria they enjoyed travel; be it day-trips in Kansas or extensive traveling to spend time with generations of family; their joy reciprocated as both family and friends embraced the company of John and Maria in their Junction City home.
They shared their individual and combined skills and talents in their service to others. Maria's being an accomplished Cook and Baker, Gardner of flowers and vegetables. Together, they planted a variety of beautiful trees, shrubs and interesting plants. Their generosity of spirit, material goods and gift of time, gave meaning to their life together. These all being celebrated in the ongoing ambiance of Family and Friends Gatherings around their table and around their inviting yard.
On February 5, 2003, he married his long time friend Maria Kolossa and they spent 21 years together.
John is survived by his loving wife, Maria; one daughter, Cindy (Mark) Schnitzlein of Ohio; one son, Mark of Ohio; one granddaughter, Athena (Joe) McConnell of Florida; four great-grandchildren, Hayden, Tristen, Taryn, Brayln, and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded by his parents, six siblings, Richard Grant Jr., Katherine Northrop, Elizabeth Pierce, Margaret Erbe, George Grant, and James Grant and one great-grandson, Trenton McConnell.
John was a family man and always put God and family first.
Family requests memorial contributions to go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Xavier Catholic Church.
A public visitation will be held at St. Xavier Catholic Church on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. followed by a rosary at 6:30 - 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Xavier Catholic Church on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service at St. Mary's Cemetery. The United States Air Force will conduct military honors.
