Jimmie Alexander Shelby, a devoted husband, cherished grandfather, and respected operating room technician, passed away on March 15, 2026, in Junction City, Kansas. Born on December 8, 1944, in Burnet County, Texas, Jimmie lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and service to his country and community.
Jimmie proudly served in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army during the 1960s, a commitment that remained one of his proudest accomplishments. Following his military service, he devoted over 30 years to the medical field as an operating room technician, concluding his noteworthy career at Irwin Community Hospital at Fort Riley, Kansas. His professional life was characterized by steadfast dedication and compassion, qualities which deeply reflected his loving and considerate personality.
He was known to many as a loving, kind, and considerate man who took great joy in his roles as a devoted husband and a treasured Papa to his grandchildren. Sharing his life with Deborah Jackson, whom he met in January 2006 and married on November 11, 2022, Jimmie found a life partner who brought warmth and happiness to his later years. Together, they enjoyed many memorable cruises, creating precious experiences that they held dear.
Jimmie had a passion for riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, often taking leisurely rides around Milford Lake and through the town, relishing the freedom and tranquility these moments afforded him. He also deeply enjoyed fishing and found solace in the gospel, both of which provided him with personal peace and joy.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah Jackson; his daughter, Jamie Shelby Sanders-Jimmerson, and her husband, Horacho Jimmerson; his sister, Shirley Giles; as well as his step-children Patience Jackson, Charmaine Jackson, and Jermaine Jackson and their families. Jimmie was a proud maternal grandfather to four grandchildren—Tony, Lyrique, and Jenee Wilson, and Desaree Jimmerson—and a doting great-grandfather to Tienee, Tone, Kadence, and Zamir Wilson. He is also remembered by his niece, Clarissa Gordan, along with a host of other extended family members who were touched by his presence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Shelby and Emma Fields; his sisters, Yvonne Bryant and Pearl Shelby; and his brother, Charles Shelby. Their memories live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A visitation to honor Jimmie’s life will be held on April 1, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Johnson & Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home located at 203 N Washington St, Junction City, Kansas.
