Janis Lolita Rhyne

Janis Lolita Rhyne passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, leaving behind a rich legacy of love, independence, and devotion to family. Born on August 15, 1957, Janis lived her 69 years embracing the values of hard work, authenticity, and deep familial bonds—values that she exemplified in every aspect of her life.

A proud graduate of Junction City High School, Class of 1975, Janis continued her education at K-State University alongside her beloved sister Regina. Janis worked as a bartender, tutor, and a cook in several restaurants—each role reflecting her ability to adapt and thrive in different environments.

Janis was best known for her dynamic presence in her community, particularly through her culinary talents. She delighted in cooking and catering for local events, often sharing her famous soul food dishes with friends and family. Her macaroni and cheese, meatloaf, fried fish, hog head cheese, gumbo, and neck bones with white potatoes became legendary, made with the same love and attention she poured into every aspect of her life. Everything she made was delicious, and those who were fortunate enough to gather at her table carry memories of warmth, laughter, and comfort. In addition to her culinary gifts, she often relied on her knowledge of home remedies to care for family members, always ready with a helpful solution and a nurturing hand.

An avid reader and music lover, Janis found joy in literature and the tunes of the 60s through the 90s, with a special appreciation for old school music. She loved to express herself, especially through her colorful clothing, and her free-spirited nature touched all who knew her. Fiercely independent and steadfastly devoted to her family, Janis approached life with a no-nonsense attitude, building a reputation as someone who spoke her truth and lived life on her terms. One of her proudest accomplishments was forging her own path, earning respect through her strength of character and dedication to living authentically.

Janis’s greatest joy was rooted in family—being there for her loved ones, celebrating their triumphs, and supporting them through challenges. She leaves in cherished memory her sister Amanda (Paul) McLeod, her brother Frank Rhyne Jr., and her beloved niece Selena Brown, as well as a host of other beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Frank Rhyne Sr., mother Dolores Rhyne, sisters Regina Rhyne, Debora Johnson, Renee Rhyne, and Towana Rhyne. Their memories, interwoven with Janis's own, will continue to inspire and comfort all who knew her.

The family would like to invite friends and community members to a visitation in honor of Janis’s life, which will be held on August 26, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Johnson & Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home, 203 N Washington St, Junction City, KS 66441.

Janis Lolita Rhyne’s vibrant spirit, abiding love for her family, and remarkable independence will long be remembered. While her passing leaves a sense of loss in the lives she touched, her legacy continues to inspire, reminding us all to live honestly, love deeply, and savor every moment.
