Janette L Sanders, affectionately known as "Sista," passed away on November 16, 2025, in Manhattan, Kansas. Born on January 24, 1956, in Norfolk, Virginia, Janette embodied an outgoing spirit, deeply rooted in her faith and characterized by her kindness, humor, and fashion sense. She was well-known for her giving nature, impacting everyone she met with her love and warmth.
Janette found great joy in time spent with her family, relishing every moment they came together from across the country. Her role as a doting grandmother was one of her proudest accomplishments, as she cherished her grandchildren, creating countless memories filled with love and laughter. She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Sanders, whom she married on November 7, 1998, in Junction City, Kansas.
Janette leaves behind a vibrant family that includes her daughters, Barbie (Kelvin) Miller, Shaniqual (Al) Johnson, A'Brenna Sanders, Tonami Sanders, Tiffany Sanders, and Sheena Sanders. Her sons, Christopher (Pam) Cooper and Robert (Dasia) Cooper, also carry forward her legacy along with her cherished grandchildren Christian (Virginia) Cooper, Re'kwan (Jasmine) Cooper, Antwan Venning, David Broughton III, Jantia (Torrence) Best, Natassja Venning, and Talaysia Broughton, as well as three great-grandchildren. Janette's love will continue to inspire her surviving sisters, Mary Dozier, Deborah Williams, and Paula (Gregory) Andrews, and her brother Howard Vick Jr., and a host of nieces and nephews.
Before her departure, Janette enjoyed lively dancing, relished music, and had an enthusiasm for shopping that complemented her fashionable flair.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Vick and Goldie Mae Cooper, and her brothers, David Vick and Clifford Vick.
A memorial service celebrating Janette's life will be held on November 22, 2025, at New Church of The Living God in Junction City, Kansas, beginning at 10:00 AM. Friends and family are welcomed to come together in remembrance of a woman who truly enriched their lives with her presence. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
