Funeral services for Iona Mae Goodwin, 78, of Junction City, KS will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 25, 2008 at the First Christian Church in Junction City, KS with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington. Mrs. Goodwin passed away at her home on April 20, 2008. Memorial contributions may be given to First Christian Church 1429 St. Mary's Road, Junction City, KS 66441.
She was born December 30, 1929 in rural Jamestown, Kansas to Victor and Frances Vollan. Iona graduated from Jamestown High School in 1947 and later attended Omaha Business College.
She married Donald Goodwin on November 22, 1950 in Mankato, Kansas and moved to Junction City at that time.
Iona was a civil service employee working at Fort Riley for many years. She later joined Don owning and operating multiple businesses in Junction City and the surrounding area. In retirement, between trips in their motor home, she enjoyed playing bridge, the stock market, and the slots. For years, local nursing home residents benefited from her joy of music through her piano playing and singing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, Ruth (Sallman) Vollan, her husband, and a sister, Phyllis Guiot.
She is survived by her children: Daughter, Sherry Ingles and her husband Jeff of Lawrence, KS; Son, Mike Goodwin and his wife, Leslie of Junction City. Seven grandchildren; Tad and Trevor Ingles of Lawrence, KS; Erika, Seth, Morgan, Charly, and Cole Goodwin of Junction City; a sister, Carolyn Winters of Wakefield, KS; and an aunt, Bertha Elstrom of Concordia, KS.
