A man of strong national pride, sincere love of family, and deep personal faith in Jesus Christ, our older brother Greg Hetzler was a highly valued neighbor, co-worker, friend, and brother.
A proud alum of Kansas State University, upon graduation Greg received a commission in the United States Air Force. He served overseas in Thailand and Okinawa before returning to the US and serving at the Headquarters of the Office of Special Investigation (OSI), USAF, Bolling Air Base. Among other assignments, Greg served as Interim Security Advisor to the Military Office of the White House, and as a USAF military legislative intern working for Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska.
After 10 years of service in the USAF, Greg converted to federal civil service and spent another 15 years in OSI, working in the Directorate of Counterintelligence, Security Operations Division. He held the position of Supervisory Criminal Investigator when he retired from civil service in 1999.
For the next 26 years, Greg travelled domestically and internationally with his long-time friend Terry Long. In between travels, Greg held several positions at his church – Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran in Alexandria, Virginia – including congregation president and elder.
Born 1949 in Junction City, Kansas, Greg made his home in Arlington, Virginia, for the past 46 years. After a long struggle with cancer, he passed away peacefully on 20 October, 2025. At his request Greg will be buried in Highland Cemetery, Junction City.
