George Young Norris

George Y. Norris, 95, of Junction City, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Valley View Senior Life.

George was born March 31, 1924 to Robert and Maude (Wilson) Norris in Nauvoo, Alabama. He spent his childhood in Nauvoo until entering the U.S. Army in 1943. George attained the rank of Staff Sergeant during his career. George was a veteran of WWII (serving in the Pacific Theater) and the Korean War.

Upon retiring in 1966, he made his home in Junction City, Kansas.

George married Helen M. Burgess on July 5, 1950 and they had four children.

George had a passion for model trains and the Lord.

He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, FOE Lodge #830, and the Earl C. Gormley, Post # 45 of the American Legion.

George is survived by 2 daughters, Wanda Alexander (Stanley), Deatsville, Alabama, and Judy White (Wayne), rural Geary County; 1 son, Robert Norris (Ann), Wichita; 10 grandchildren, and numerous great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his wife Helen, and youngest son, Merlin Jay Norris, Wichita.

Cremation is planned.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 9, 2019 at Johnson Cremations Funerals Receptions, Junction City, KS

A inurnment service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan, KS.

Memorial contributions may be given in George's name to the Friends Of Animals, P.O. Box 580, Junction City, KS 66441.
