Funeral services SFC (RET) George Burnes Jr., 83, Junction City will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue with Galen Rhoades officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Mr. Burnes passed away December 8, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS. Visitation will be 6-8pm, Monday, December 14, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. Memorial contributions in George's name may be sent or left at the funeral home.
George was born October 7, 1926 in Little Rock, Arkansas the son of Robert and Earnestine (Leeks) Burnes. George served in the U S Army for 21 years retiring in 1971. He married Lucena Escalona January 23, 2001 in Junction City, KS, she survives at the home.
Other survivors include a son, Nathaniel Burnes, Florida, a daughter, Latonnie Luckadue, Arkansas and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
