Dwight Davis Sr., lovingly known as “PawPaw” to his family, passed away on April 10, 2026, in Junction City, Kansas. He was born on March 14, 1957, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Louis Davis Jr. and Ida B. Williams.
Dwight was a man of strength, dedication, and unwavering character. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1979 to 1991, where he worked as a Corrections NCO for 12 years. His leadership, discipline, and strong work ethic carried over into his civilian life, where he became an invaluable member of the Junction City Parks and Recreation Department, specializing in landscaping and arbor work. He also contributed his skills and dedication to Geary Community Hospital in grounds and security. Dwight’s commitment to excellence earned him numerous awards, reflecting his diligence and pride in his work.
Dwight was known for his warm smile and positive outlook on life. He approached every task with enthusiasm, integrity, and a willingness to help others without being asked. His presence brought light and encouragement to those around him.
A loving and devoted husband, Dwight married Velma Robinson-Davis on February 23, 2002. Together they built a life rooted in love, support, and family. He was a proud father to Dwight Davis Jr. (Tishonda), Keisha, Dontae M. Robinson (fiancée Lanae Lane), LaVerne Mitchell (Keith Mitchell) and Marilyn L. Robinson-Hill (James Hill). He cherished his role as “PawPaw,” finding great joy in spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family.
Dwight had a deep love for life and the things that brought people together. He was a devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers football and basketball, and he also enjoyed track and field. He loved being outdoors—whether fishing, tending to his flowers, or simply enjoying nature. Dwight had a passion for cooking and grilling. He also loved dancing, laughing, and creating memories with those he loved. One of his favorite phrases, often said with excitement and joy, was, “Way Downtown… Bang!”
He is survived by his beloved wife, Velma Robinson-Davis; his children; his sister, Mercelyn (Davis) Sullen (Condell Sullen); his brother, Delwin Davis Sr. (Gloria Lewis Davis); and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
