Bonnie R. Palmer, born June 27, 1944, in Panhandle, Texas, passed away on April 21, 2026, in Manhattan, Kansas. A devoted mother, grandmother, and esteemed professional, Bonnie's life was marked by her steadfast dedication to her family and her valued career in civil service.
Bonnie retired from Fort Riley, where she served as the secretary for the Director of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security. Her commitment and efficiency in this role were a testament to her professionalism and work ethic. Throughout her career, she played an essential role in supporting the vital functions of the military installation.
Beyond her career, Bonnie was known for her warm and vibrant personality. She had a passion for cooking and singing, with her chicken noodle soup and ham and beans being cherished by all who tasted them. Her love for fishing and frequent visits to the casino were among the joys that enriched her life. Above all, Bonnie took immense pride in her family, cherishing her children and acting as a loving presence in their lives.
Bonnie is survived by her three daughters: Gari Hamden of Louisville, Kansas; Randi Hamden of Manhattan, Kansas; and Corina Roudybush of Manhattan, Kansas. She is also survived by her son, Bennie F. Palmer of Manhattan, Kansas. Her legacy continues through her three grandchildren: Megan Cruz of Ohio, David Sean Hardy of Georgia, and Nolan Michael Rathbun of South Dakota. Bonnie is further survived by her sister, Judy Armstrong of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Albert and Treva Elizabeth (Brown) Bluthhardt; two sons, Tony J. Hamden and Nolan Corey Rathbun; and two brothers, Daniel Young and David Young.
Cremation has taken place in accordance with Bonnie’s wishes. A celebration of life to honor her will be 11 a.m., May 30, 2026 at the Thunder Hill Cowboy Church 8950 Elk Creek Road Manhattan, Kansas.
Bonnie R. Palmer’s enduring love for her family and her steadfast commitment to service leave a lasting impact on all who knew her. Her warmth, kindness, and spirited zest for life will be remembered with great affection and respect.
