Billy Martin passed away on October 14, 2026, at the age of 94.
Born on December 7, 1931, Billy lived a long life marked by service, devotion to family, and a deep appreciation for simple joys. He initially joined the Army in 1948 and retired in 1976. During his military career, he served as a tanker in both Vietnam and Germany. After retiring from the Army, he went to work for the City of Junction City in 1976, where he remained for 17 years until his final retirement in 1993. Billy always retained a life of hard work and valued his commitment to his community.
Billy married Margaret June Owen on December 12, 1960 in Hawaii.
Outside of his years of service and work, Billy found happiness in the things he loved most. He was an avid lover of both painting and guitar, and he also enjoyed the occasional puzzle. More than anything, his most prized possession was his family. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were at the heart of his life and remained his greatest source of pride and joy.
Billy is survived by his daughter, Louella (Russell) Black, and his son, Lionel (Carol) Martin; and daughter-in-law Deborah Willman. He also leaves behind his granddaughters, June and Valerie, and his grandsons, Roy, Randy, and Bradley. His family continued to grow through the generations, and he is also survived by his great-grandchildren Avery, Jade, Owen, Landon, Vanessa, Falcon, Walter, and Gavin. He will be remembered with love by all who shared in the strength of his presence, the steadiness of his care, and the warmth he held for his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Martin; his mother, Tennie Martin; his wife, Margaret June Martin; and his son, Johnny Willman. Billy was also preceded in death by all of his siblings.
A Memorial Service will be held on October 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 405 West 8th Street, Junction City, Kansas 66441. A Graveside Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan, Kansas 66503 with full military honors.
Billy Martin’s life was one of dedication, creativity, and love for family. His memory will be cherished by those who knew him and by the generations of loved ones who carry his name and his legacy forward.
