Barbara M. "Smiley" Shaw

Barbara (Smiley) M. Shaw (48), of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on June 14, 2024 at Stormont Vail in Topeka, Kansas. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those whose lives she touched along the way.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Smiley will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the Lighthouse Fellowship Church of God, 702 N. Webster, Junction City, Kansas.

The family asks that any floral tributes be sent directly to the church and that memorial contributions are given to the family in c/o the Lighthouse Fellowship Church.

Smiley was born to Edna M. Geiger and Mark Anthony Wesley Shaw III on May 7, 1976 in Junction City, Kansas. Barbara grew up in the Junction City area alongside her older sister Mary (Toya) and her younger brother Alastar (AJ). Smiley had obtained her Dental Assistant certification a few years before her passing and just recently went back to school to complete her Medical Billing and Coding degree but found comfort in serving as a caretaker to a close friend of hers. Barbara was given the nickname “Smiley” early on in life because no matter what she encountered in life she always carried a smile on her face. She was most proud of being a grandmother and always referred to her grandsons as the missing piece she never knew she needed.

She is survived by her three daughters, Donekka Geiger of Kansas, Unique Shaw (Darey) of Texas, and Tishida Stroud of Massachusetts; her two grandsons, Zion & Nessiah; her sisters, Mary and Kesha; her brothers, Alastar and Mark; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends

Smiley was proceeded in death by her mother, Edna M. Geiger along with a host of other aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
